OTI Praises Bill to Restore Net Neutrality
Press Release

March 6, 2019
Today, Congressional Democrats introduced bicameral legislation that would restore the Federal Communications Commission’s 2015 net neutrality rules. In 2017, the FCC repealed those rules and relinquished its oversight of internet service providers such as Comcast and AT&T. In response, New America’s Open Technology Institute sued the FCC to restore the 2015 rules. That litigation is pending in federal court.
The following quote can be attributed to Joshua Stager, Senior Counsel at New America’s Open Technology Institute:
“This legislation is exactly what Americans have been asking for ever since the FCC repealed net neutrality in 2017. In its repeal, the FCC abdicated its authority to oversee Comcast, AT&T, and other internet service providers, which put consumers and the economy at risk. Today's bill reverses that misguided action, restores net neutrality, and puts the FCC back in the business of protecting the American people. We urge the House and Senate to pass the bill as quickly as possible.”
