Jerusalem: Flashpoint for Regional & Global Conflict

In recent months, there have been near-daily reports of political violence in Jerusalem, the world's most hotly contested city. It is the 'volcanic core' of the Israeli-Palestinian and Israeli-Arab conflicts. How do the Palestinian and Israeli narratives regarding Jerusalem differ and how does that impact their shared use of the city? What are the circumstances that have made Jerusalem so extremely volatile at this particular moment?

Lisa Goldman spoke with Daniel Seidemann and Robert Wright about the diplomatic, legal, and historical issues related to the city.


Lisa Goldman was a fellow in the International Security Program. Prior to relocating to New York City in 2012, she lived and worked for over a decade in the Middle East, covering Israel-Palestine and the immediate region, including the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict and the 2011 Egyptian uprising.
