Oct. 11, 2011

We are excited to be hosting an event this Thursday with a terrific panel of experts on retirement savings. The panel will discuss the retirement income deficit, low rates of participation in retirement savings plans, and possible ways to facilitate automatic savings through workplace retirement plans.

You are welcome to join us on October 13th from 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 at the New America Foundation. Featured speakers include Mark Iwry (U.S. Department of Treasury), Michael Calabrese (New America Foundation), William Gale (Brookings Institution), Teresa Ghilarducci (The New School), and David Certner (AARP). Asset Building Program Director, Reid Cramer, will moderate the panel. The discussion will feature commentary on President Obama's "Auto IRA," a program that would require employers to facilitate voluntary contributions to retirement savings through automatic payroll deductions. A new paper by Michael Calabrese will be released at the event and will discuss some of the strengths and limitations of this proposal, with particular attention to the needs of lower-income workers.
