Sarah Myers West was a fellow in New America’s Cybersecurity Initiative. She is currently the managing director of the AI Now Institute and recently served as a senior advisor on AI at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. She is also a visiting research scientist at the Network Science Institute at Northeastern University and is a member of the OECD Expert Group on AI Futures. Her forthcoming book Tracing Code (University of California Press) examines the origins of commercial surveillance. She received her PhD in communication from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California.
