Raven DeRamus-Byers is a program associate on the PreK–12 team, and the coordinator of the Grow Your Own Educators National Network at New America.
Prior to New America, she worked as a research assistant at the Center for Public Research and Leadership at Columbia Law School, studying the relationships between high-quality instructional materials, pedagogy, and family support in public schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. Raven has worked as a learning and writing consultant, helping students with nontraditional backgrounds find success in all subjects in institutions of higher education. Her years spent teaching high school English has inspired Raven to find ways to support nontraditional and underserved students in becoming and remaining culturally-responsive and culturally-sustaining teachers.
Raven holds a master’s degree in politics and education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree in English with concentrations in teacher preparation and African-American studies from Princeton University.
