Mauriell H. Amechi

Senior Policy Analyst, Center on Education & Labor

Mauriell H. Amechi was a Senior Policy Analyst at New America’s Center on Education & Labor. He is also a previous visiting scholar at Rutgers University’s Samuel DeWitt Proctor Institute for Leadership, Equity, and Justice.

With his expertise in higher education administration, Dr. Amechi conducts research and analysis on policies related to educational equity,  college access and success for historically marginalized student populations, and equitable work-based learning programs.

Prior to this role, Dr. Amechi taught higher education/student affairs administration classes and conducted policy-relevant research as a faculty member at Old Dominion University and the University of Redlands.

Dr. Amechi has published articles in several peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, Review of Higher Education, and Journal of African American Males in Education. He serves on editorial boards for the Journal of the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition and the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice. In addition, Dr. Amechi is a frequent presenter at professional associations, including the American Educational Research Association and the Association for the Study of Higher Education.

Amechi earned his B.A. with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his M.A. from Ohio State University. In addition, he holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
