Matthew Pinsker

Matthew Pinsker is an ASU Future of War fellow with New America's International Security program. He is writing a biography of Abraham Lincoln, focusing on his record as a political party leader. Boss Lincoln, forthcoming from W.W. Norton & Co., offers new insights about the history of American partisanship through the biography of its greatest practitioner. Pinsker held a visiting research professorship at the Strategic Studies Institute of the U.S. Army War College, where he worked on issues concerning presidential war powers and U.S. civil-military relations. He holds the Brian Pohanka Chair of Civil War history at Dickinson and serves as director of the House Divided Project. He is the author of two books, including Lincoln's Sanctuary: Abraham Lincolnand The Soldiers’ Home. He is a graduate of Harvard College and has a PhD in modern history from the University of Oxford.
