Laura Bate

Cybersecurity Policy Fellow

Laura Bate is a cybersecurity policy fellow. She was a policy analyst with the Cybersecurity Initiative at New America, where she researched mechanisms for building a more robust cybersecurity workforce. She also worked with the Cybersecurity Policy Fellowship and the Humans of Cybersecurity project, an effort addressing diversity in the cybersecurity community. She is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate of Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), and has written on information security, the Middle East, and other national security issues for Foreign Policy, Slate, War on the Rocks, and The National Interest.

Bate received her master's degree from Georgetown University's Security Studies Program where her research focused on the implementation of big data tools in an intelligence environment. She holds a bachelor's degree in economics and international affairs from the University of Colorado - Boulder and studied Arabic at the American University in Cairo.
