Grégoire Roos is a non-resident scholar with Planetary Politics and Programme Director for Europe and Russia at Chatham House. He leads his team in focusing on security, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the economic challenge for Europe, its place in the world, and the geopolitical shifts around Russia and its neighbors.
Prior to joining Chatham House, Roos was the Head of Political Dialogue and Policy Innovation at the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt in Germany, where he supervised strategic engagement with governments, parliaments, think tanks, and international organizations with a focus on the U.S., Europe, and Asia, and coordinated the foundation’s agenda as it relates to the geopolitics of socioeconomic transformation and energy transition.
Before joining the BMW Foundation, Roos worked as a geopolitical analyst for the UNDP Regional Service Centre in Africa and in the financial industry, focusing on public sector reform, public–private cooperation for development, and macro trends and their impact on markets and society. His portfolios covered the implications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution for the financial industry and global trade, its impact on global security and regional cooperation, and its repercussions for climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
In parallel with his main business occupation, Roos served as Special Advisor for Social and Human Sciences to the president of the French Commission to UNESCO before representing France as a youth ambassador to UNESCO.
