2019 Ranking Digital Rights Corporate Accountability Index – U.S. Launch

Event

Join us for the U.S. launch of the 2019 Ranking Digital Rights (RDR) Corporate Accountability Index: ranking 24 of the world’s most powerful telecommunications, internet, and mobile companies on their commitments and policies affecting users’ freedom of expression and privacy. Last year's 2018 RDR Index highlighted notable progress since the first RDR Index in 2015, but found that companies still leave users in the dark about many important policies and practices affecting users’ rights.

How much progress have major companies made in the past year in respecting users' freedom of expression and privacy? How can the RDR Index findings inform global regulatory debates about privacy, disinformation, and hate speech online? An overview of the 2019 RDR Index results will be followed by a discussion of what needs to be done to ensure that technology is designed and governed in a way that is compatible with democracy and human rights.
