Washington, DC — New America announced that Peter Bergen will be assuming the new roles of Vice President, Director of Studies, and Director of the International Security, Future of War, and Fellows programs. Bergen had previously served as Director of New America’s then National Security Program.

In his new roles, Bergen will seek to create greater collaboration between New America's many and diverse programs; help to find the brightest and most diverse thinkers for its Fellows program and help to guide the Future of War program as it describes what warfare will look like in coming decades.

“I have had the great pleasure of working at New America since 2002,” said Bergen. “It's hard to imagine working with a smarter group of colleagues or in a more collegial organization and it is a real honor to assume a wider role in it under the wise and energetic leadership of Anne-Marie Slaughter.”

“I am very lucky to have Peter Bergen as my colleague, friend and now partner on the leadership team at New America,” said Anne-Marie Slaughter, President of New America. “He has lived and breathed the spirit of who we are and what we are trying to accomplish in the world joining us as a Fellow and then becoming a Program Director. Promoting him to our very first Director of Studies and of Fellows was a natural next step.”
