As data-driven technologies like artificial intelligence increasingly inform critical decisions about employment, access to public services, and deployment of government resources, how can these systems include mechanisms to protect individuals and communities? The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) announced a collaborative national initiative to develop an AI Bill of Rights to ensure technologies that use artificial intelligence uphold democratic values: strengthening equity, accountability, justice, and integrity.

OSTP is co-hosting six public events to promote public understanding and engagement on how data-driven technologies impact the lives of Americans. These events will bring together a variety of practitioners, advocates, and Federal government officials to offer insights and analysis on the risks, harms, benefits, and policy opportunities of AI and other automated technologies. The events offer the public an opportunity to interact with various stakeholders and identify concerns, opportunities, and suggestions to OSTP.

Join New America and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy for an exploration of current and emergent uses of technology to implement or improve social welfare systems, social development programs, and other systems that can impact life chances. Panelists will discuss how new technologies are aiding or harming vulnerable individuals and communities, and the role of legal or technological interventions to strengthen public administration and democratic participation.
