New America Announces Its New Mission and Vision, Reveals New Logo and Website

Washington, DC — New America, a nonpartisan, solutions-oriented think tank, announced today a new mission statement and visual identity to meet the challenges the country is facing at this crucial moment in our nation’s history. Over the past decade, New America has increasingly focused not only on thinking big about the changes this country needs, but also on how to work directly with the people most affected by policy. Its revised mission statement—generating big ideas and bold solutions for a new America—leans into this identity. The new New America is focused on empowering policymakers and changemakers to turn bold ideas into real solutions for people, families, and communities in the United States and worldwide.

Complete with a relaunched brand, overhauled website, and new logo to mark the milestone, New America’s next era elevates thought leadership and practical solutions across five core issue areas: education and work, democracy, family well-being, global security, and technology—with a renewed commitment to the challenges of today and tomorrow.

As the world’s challenges have grown more urgent and complex, solving them requires both new policy ideas and new ways to engage audiences in the work. New America envisions an America that represents and serves the public, where institutions work for all Americans, where workers, families, and communities can thrive, and where people are secure from existential threats.

“Since our founding in 1999, New America has generated big ideas to usher in sweeping, long-term changes necessary for all Americans to succeed,” said New America Chief Executive Officer Anne-Marie Slaughter. “But today does not look like 1999, and neither should we. We have spent the past decade developing ideas and solutions for the big reforms that our country needs to succeed in our politics, education, social policy, technology, and global security. We have also built a new practice of how to integrate policy design and delivery by putting people first. With today’s announcement, we are proud to launch a new era at New America—one dedicated to a vision of a new America that represents, serves, and works for everyone.”

The redesigned website—with expanded multimedia storytelling including podcasts, better access to live events, and publications reimagined to put readers first—offers the user a more direct path to explore New America’s research and analysis and delivers New America’s impact stories directly to our audiences.

The new website’s creative, dynamic, and intentional thought leadership–driven platform reflects how readers actually consume information today. It transforms New America’s digital presence into a more user-friendly, sustainable, and accessible platform to better engage our audiences, and inspire them to action.

“The people we serve don’t just consume our content—they use it as a blueprint for action,” said Paul Butler, New America’s President and Chief Transformation Officer. “As we unveil this new identity and digital platform, our focus remains squarely on them. We’ve rebuilt our experience from the ground up to be more intuitive and accessible, ensuring that our research and stories can be translated directly into impact. We are proud to see our digital tools become as bold and effective as the people who use them to change the world.”

With a modern, unconventional aesthetic, the new logo, colors, typography, visual elements, use of photography, and data visualizations reflect the new New America, which values innovation, inclusivity, and people-focused social impact.

“We are excited to relaunch our brand, our website, and our logo, each of which expresses New America’s forward progress and optimism,” said Vice President of Content and Communications David Lanham. “This relaunch reflects our evolution as an impact-driven organization and our clear-eyed motivation to tackle the important challenges that lie ahead. As we move forward, our experts are now better equipped with the modern, future-ready tools they need to share bold policy ideas, and ultimately, generate the impact our nation needs.”

With a focus on elevating its core issue areas to the forefront, the new brand and website center content around the following five issue areas, each essential to building a nation and a world where everyone can thrive:

EDUCATION & WORK, led by Kevin Carey, sees public education as a pillar of American prosperity and civic life, and makes education and work opportunities accessible to everyone.

DEMOCRATIC FUTURES, led by Mark Schmitt, is working to restore civic trust and developing new strategies and innovations to counter the threat of authoritarianism in this era of democratic crisis.

GLOBAL SECURITY, led by Peter Bergen, is reimagining global systems to center people and the planet, while strengthening national security.

TECHNOLOGY & DEMOCRACY, led by Lilian Coral, is working to harness technology—which shapes our democracy, our economy, and our daily lives—for the public good.

THRIVING FAMILIES, led by Tara Dawson McGuinness, is working toward a world where families can thrive with the time and resources they need for a better life.

In addition, New America is elevating its New America Fellows Program, which has brought important new voices to the public sphere, supporting many award-winning books in narrative nonfiction and innovative multimedia projects. New America is also marking the moment with a reintroduction of The Thread, its digital magazine that weaves together issues of policy, equity, and culture.
