New America's Fellows Program invests in thinkers—journalists, scholars, filmmakers, and public policy analysts—who generate big, bold ideas that have an impact and spark new conversations about the most pressing issues of our day. In 2019, the New America Fellows Program celebrates 20 years of ambitious work that reaches broad audiences and changes the way we think about a range of domestic and international issues.
Since 1999, we are proud to have supported more than 200 dynamic and engaging storytellers as they seek to advance big ideas that have become templates for change. Their work has helped to broaden our understanding of pressing issues that can, often, be forgotten or go untold.
—Awista Ayub, Director, Fellows Program
New America Fellows have a significant impact on a range of important public policy matters and each year publish hundreds of articles and op-eds in major national and international media as they work toward the completion of their books or films. Our aim throughout is immediate policy impact as well as the creation of books, and other major works, that attract large audiences and stand the test of time.
Here, we highlight 20 years of accomplishments that demonstrate the impact of the Fellows Program: 100+ books, 7 documentary films, 5 longform reporting projects.
