Kevin Carey

Kevin Carey is the Vice President of Education & Work at New America.

Carey has written news and feature articles for numerous publications including The New York Times, The Atlantic, TIME, Vox, WIRED, The New Republic, Slate, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and Washington Monthly. His latest book, Shadow Dynasty: How The Mellon Family Unmade America, will be published by Harper in January 2027.

Prior to joining New America, Carey worked as the policy director of Education Sector and as an analyst at the Education Trust and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. He also worked for the Indiana Senate Finance Committee and as Indiana’s assistant state budget director.

Carey has a master’s degree from the Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University. He lives in Arlington, Virginia.
