New America Creates Millennial Fellowship to Support Young Adults Engaging with Public Policy
WASHINGTON, D.C. —
New America is pleased to announce the Millennial Public Policy Fellowship,
set to begin in August 2017. This competitive and paid fellowship will select a
diverse set of 10 young adults, each with a strong interest in increasing youth
economic opportunity across the United States and the ability to contribute to
future public policy solutions that address the most challenging issues facing
rising generations.
With a $800,000
grant from the Citi Foundation as part of its Pathways to Progress initiative focused on boosting the career
readiness of low-income youth, New America will invest in some of the most
promising young minds in the country to deepen their exposure to contemporary
public policy issues; to create valuable professional development experiences
that will support their growth as future leaders, critical thinkers, and policy
entrepreneurs; and incubate and advance a set of ideas capable of changing
policy systems for the better.
The deadline for submitting application materials is April 3, 2017. Candidates chosen for the
fellowship will be notified during the week of May 15, 2017. The fellowship will begin in August 2017 and run through
July 2018.
Anne-Marie Slaughter, president and CEO of New America, said:
“Our Fellows Program has been at the heart of our organization’s work since its
founding. It has supported promising voices and advanced big
ideas through research, reporting, analysis and storytelling. We are
thrilled to offer this opportunity to a cohort of promising young adults, and
we appreciate the support of the Citi Foundation in making this happen.”
Brandee McHale, president of the Citi Foundation, said, “Today’s youth
face a more complex economic future than faced by youth in previous
generations. The Citi Foundation is proud to support New America and the
Millennial Public Policy Fellowship, designed to help young people identify
solutions to the particular challenges they face.”
Selected fellows will conduct policy research under the
direction of New America staff and be tasked with developing a high-impact plan for engaging youth-serving organizations
and building awareness. The fellows will
disseminate their research and ideas at a culminating symposium that will
convene relevant thought leaders, policymakers, influencers and practitioners.
