Don’t Miss Out on “The Future of Federal Student Loans.”

On Tuesday, the New America Foundation is hosting an event on “The Future of Federal Student Loans.” Representatives from the Obama administration, the student loan community, and New America’s Education Policy Program will discuss the pros and cons of the President’s proposal to end the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program and to instead make the loans directly.

If you have not yet registered for the event, which is now over capacity, we encourage you to tune in for the live webcast. If you are already registered for the event, please arrive early to ensure that you have a seat.

About this event: On Feb. 26, the Obama administration laid out a bold plan to expand financial aid, paid for in part by ending the FFEL program and instead contracting with companies to service loans through the federal Direct Loan Program. The proposal is controversial in the lending community, the higher education community, and on Capitol Hill. Tuesday’s event will provide a balanced look at the President’s plans.

Featured Speakers:

  • Robert Shireman, Senior Advisor, U.S. Department of Education
  • Scott Fleming, Director, Chartwell Education Group
  • Jason Delisle, Research Director of New America’s Education Policy Program
  • Paul Combe, President and CEO, American Student Assistance

Moderator:

  • MaryEllen McGuire, Director of New America’s Education Policy Program
