Madelaine Sawyer

Major Madelaine Sawyer is a Department of the Air Force National Defense Fellow in New America’s Federal Executive Program, Washington, D.C. Prior to this assignment, she was a CWMD Exercise Planner, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. As a member of a joint service and civilian team, she led the exercise assessment staff to sustain Agency mission essential task proficiency and readiness in support of combatant commands. In addition, she orchestrated Tier-1 Joint Chiefs of Staff, combatant command, and Agency crisis response events in accordance with the Chairman’s Joint Training Plan.

Major Sawyer entered Air Force Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB, Ala. and was commissioned in May 2014. She has extensive experience in ICBM operations and has served as a Minuteman III deputy, crew commander, instructor, evaluator, flight commander, and executive officer. She served as the Wing Executive Officer, 341st Missile Wing, Malmstrom AFB, Mont. Following her operational missile experience, she was the Operations Officer of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Detachment 365, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass.
