William W. Gerrity

Board Member Emeritus, New America (2008-2022); CEO, Gerrity Group

Bill is the founder and CEO of Gerrity Group, an investor, owner and operator of neighborhood and community shopping centers in the western United States. He has over 30 years of experience in the development, investment, management, and acquisition and disposition of real estate working with institutional partners including endowments and pension funds.

Gerrity Group is currently investing in retail properties that can be adapted and thrive in this era of rapid change in online commerce and real estate utilization. The company owns 23 properties in five states after beginning operations in 2011.

In 2005, Bill built a vertically integrated operating company with offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Bangalore to develop and manage necessity oriented shopping centers to meet the rapid growth of the middle class in China and India. Prior to this venture, Bill founded GMS Realty LLC, a venture with Morgan Stanley, Principal Financial and the Washington State Investment Board that acquired and operated neighborhood shopping centers in the western United States.

Today, Bill serves on the Board of Directors of New America, a Washington DC based think tank; and Zocalo Public Square, a Los Angeles lecture series and ideas magazine. He is on the Advisory Board of the Fisher Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics at UC Berkeley, and is a member of the Pension Real Estate Association and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Bill was born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles with a B.A. in History.
