On Sunday, California Governor Jerry Brown signed into law SB 822, the nation’s strongest net neutrality law. SB 822 ensures that Californians continue to be protected by the strong net neutrality protections enshrined in the Federal Communications Commission’s now-repealed 2015 order. The bill passed both houses of the California legislature with bipartisan and substantial majorities.

The following quote can be attributed to Eric Null, Senior Policy Counsel at New America’s Open Technology Institute:

“The passage of SB 822 is a win for internet freedom and the ongoing fight for net neutrality. California once again has shown that it is willing to protect consumers in the face of substantial opposition from large corporate interests. This law will prevent internet service providers from unduly influencing internet traffic, thereby allowing Californians to continue to decide what content they want and when they want it, and allowing the online market to continue to flourish. Other states should follow in California’s footsteps.”
