Upcoming Webinars: Shared Equity Homeownership & Poverty Measure
In addition to our recent events, we’re partnering with a number of other organizations to reach out beyond the DC audience with a series of policy webinars to build awareness around some important issues, shared equity homeownership and improving the poverty measure.
The first webinar is “Shared Equity Homeownership: Building Assets, Affordability and Sustainable Communities.” Shared Equity Homeownership (which we have written about in the past) is an approach to promoting ownership as a sustainable and low-risk tool for low-income families. A number of successful models have been put into place across the nation and the potential for this tool to be used more widely is vast. The webinar features Reid Cramer, as well as Jeffrey Lubell from the Center for Housing Policy, Rick Jacobus from NCB Capital Impact and Jeff Corey from the Northern Communities Land Trust. The webinar occurs on Wednesday, April 14th from 1-2pm. Click here to RSVP and for more information.
The next webinar is the first in a two-part series on the Supplemental Poverty Measure. Part one, “A Supplemental Poverty Measure: What it Will and Won’t Do” will demonstrate the need for a new poverty measure and how a new measure will differ from the current standard, as well as discussing the role of Congress in the creation and implementation of a new supplemental measure. Speakers will include Indivar Dutta-Gupta from the House Ways and Means Committee; Arloc Sherman from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities; and Annette Case from Strategies to Eliminate Poverty. The session will be moderated by Michael Laracy of the Annie E. Casey Foundation and will occur on Wednesday, April 14th from 2-3pm. Click here to RSVP and for more information.
The second part of the series, “Behind the Scenes: Adopting a Supplemental Poverty Measure” will feature Rebecca Blank, Undersecretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs, and a long-time advocate of an alternate measure of poverty. Dr. Blank will present on the administration’s perspective and plans in this area. In addition to Dr. Blank, Ron Haskins from the Brookings Institution and Mark Levitan from the New York City Center for Economic Opportunity will present, and the session will be moderated by Clifford Johnson of the National League of Cities. This session is scheduled for Wednesday, April 21, 2-3pm. Click here to RSVP and for more information.
These sessions all have excellent presenters, and are sure to be informative for those interested in these issues. For more information on the supplemental poverty measure, you might want to read Reid Cramer’s recent piece, Poor Measurement, from Spotlight on Poverty.
