The United States of Inequality
Inequality is back, with a vengeance. Public perceptions of inequality are wildly skewed and the nation is much more inequitably distributed than people believe, and much much more inequitable than people believe should be the case.
Why is this happening? Recently Slate’s Timothy Noah put forward a 10-part series on the causes and outcomes of “the great divergence.” This is a critical issue in America and one that has not received the exposure that it deserves. That’s why we’re hosting Tim to discuss his series and the questions he raises this coming Monday, November 1, 2010.
In addition, we’ll have commentary from Ray Brescia, a law professor at the University of Albany Law School and the author of “The Cost of Inequality: Social Distance, Predatory Conduct, and the Financial Crisis,” and Tom Woodruff the Director of Change to Win.
This event will be webcast live on the event page if you can’t make it to New America, and if you can make it my advice is to show up early because this is sure to be a packed house. Click here to RSVP.
