Public Comments on the Commission for Public Higher Education’s Draft Standards

The New America Higher Education Policy Team submitted comments on the Commission for Public Higher Education's (CPHE) first draft standards. CPHE is an aspiring accrediting agency made up of six university systems in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee that is seeking to accredit public university systems and eventually gain recognition from the Department of Education as a recognized agency.

The comments make recommendations on a number of areas including success with respect to student achievement, student support, recruiting ad admissions, shared governance, academic freedom, and viewpoint diversity. The comments also urge CPHE to establish itself as an independent entity with strong conflict of interest policies.
