#ShareTheMicInCyber Fellow, 2024 Class
2024 #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellow Pavlina Pavlova discusses her research on the Caveat podcast by N2K. Pavlina discusses her work calling for a shift in the tech conversation to address gender-specific harms, and promote safer, more inclusive digital environments. During the conversation with host Ben Yelin, Pavlina highlights the findings of her report, including her conclusion that more can be done to strengthen resources for victims of data weaponization and cyber attacks.
There's definitely a need to strengthen victim support and reporting mechanisms, and we still don't have enough for crimes which are very specific to women, such as non-consensual disclosure of intimate images…Governments and civil society organizations must build more robust and more accessible report structures for victims of gendered data weaponization, and establishing online reporting channels or specialized hotlines….[which] are a patchwork of solutions, and there's many times there's not enough about cybercrime legislation, what are the protections, remedies, and organizations we can turn to.
