This month, the Pew Center on the States released a report titled, A Matter of Degrees, Preparing Teachers for the Pre-K Classroom. The report argues that state and federal leaders should implement policies “to require and encourage a higher level of pre-k teacher preparation and provide support systems that help educators attain advanced qualifications.” It was written by Marisa Bueno, Linda Darling Hammond, and Danielle Gonzales, and was published as a project of Pre-K Now.
To provide some perspective on the report, Early Ed Watch talked with Steven Barnett, co-director of the National Institute for Early Education Research, who has conducted research in a similar vein and advocates for better training and education for pre-K teachers.
