Research says that children who attend full-day kindergarten learn more and have better learning outcomes, especially disadvantaged children. But not every state or local school district offers it as an option for families. And now many of the states and school districts that have offered full-day kindergarten in the past are considering cuts as a way to save money during this tough budget season.
I recently wrote a piece for the Huffington Post about how full-day kindergarten is faring in communities across the country. The bad news: In many local school districts, school boards are proposing chops to full-day kindergarten. The good news: In some recent cases, parent advocacy has ultimately played a role in keeping full-day kindergarten whole. Read my full piece here:
