Forum Tomorrow on Capitol Hill on Tax Reform and Financial Security

We’re looking forward to attending CFED’s forum tomorrow on Capitol Hill titled “Can America Save Itself?” The event will feature a dynamic bipartisan panel to discuss a range of policy approaches to using tax reform to better promote financial security for all Americans. The forum will be held in Room 121 in the Cannon House Office building. Breakfast is served at 8:15 am and the event will start at 8:30.

The keynote panel will include:

Following the keynote speakers, we’ll hear from a panel of featured experts, including:

  • Reid Cramer, Director, Asset Building Program, New America Foundation
  • Pamela Everhart, Senior Vice President, Benefit Policy Development & Thought Leadership, Fidelity Investments
  • David John, Senior Research Fellow in Retirement Security & Financial Institutions, The Heritage Foundation
  • Lisa Mensah, Executive Director, Aspen Institute Initiative on Financial Security
  • Bob Friedman, Founder, CFED (Moderator)

A potential push for comprehensive tax reform gives Congress an opportunity to address a significant threat to basic financial security: a widespread lack of household savings. Nearly half of American households lack the necessary cash savings to weather a sudden financial crisis, such as an accident or a job loss, without sinking into poverty and financial difficulty.

This panel comprised of some of the nation’s top experts on savings and financial security will offer ideas on the current role of tax policy in savings and how potential changes to tax policy can help Americans build bigger nest eggs to secure their futures. Click here to RSVP via email.
