FEBP Releases Issue Brief on 2012 Education Appropriations

The fiscal year 2012 appropriations process has been a frequent topic here on Ed Money Watch since the process first got started early in 2011. This year’s process came to an end in December 2011, months into the fiscal year which started October 1^st, 2011. Today, the Federal Education Budget Project (FEBP), Ed Money Watch’s parent initiative, released an issue brief that analyzes and explains the recently finalized fiscal year 2012 federal education appropriations.

The issue brief (2012 Education Appropriations Guide) breaks down the key developments in the budget process that shaped fiscal year 2012 education appropriations. It explains how Congress’ failure to reach agreement on a joint budget resolution and subsequent adoption of the Budget Control Act affected education funding. It also compares the different education funding proposals supported by majorities in the House and Senate and the final funding bill. The issue brief also includes an analysis of the complicated budget for the Pell Grant program.
