If you haven’t already heard about Jennifer Ludden’s series on National Public Radio about work-life balance and the need for more flexible work arrangements, get thee to a radio! (Or an ipod, or a computer…) Today’s story focused on how families in low-wage jobs, like those in retail or hospitality, are struggling to match their often arbitrary work schedules to the hours that child care centers and schools are open. Adopting policies that allow for more flexible arrangements goes hand in hand with improving early learning opportunities for young kids. We cannot forget how entwined these issues are — which makes Ludden’s series all the more important.
