In 2025, New America’s Future Security team secured a major transparency breakthrough when U.S. Africa Command released detailed data on airstrikes in Somalia.

For years, discrepancies in official reporting limited accountability. Through persistent tracking and public analysis, New America helped pressure AFRICOM to clarify strike numbers and civilian casualty estimates. This effort improved media accuracy and strengthened oversight of U.S. military operations.
