The Future of Work-Life Balance and Workplace Flexibility

On March 31, the White House hosted a provocative Forum on Workplace Flexibility. President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama spoke passionately about their own struggles with work-life balance and about the need for action on the issue of workplace flexibility. This was a groundbreaking event in the field of work-life balance. So what happens now?

Millions of Americans experience a mismatch between their needs for flexibility and balance and the structure of America workplaces. The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has helped surface this mismatch and inspire events such as the White House Forum. Out of the Forum there will be new initiatives within the federal government, new opportunities for legislative and regulatory activity and new attention to current and future private sector action. Join the New America Foundation’s Workforce and Family Program as we seek to answer the question: What will be and should be the next steps in addressing the area of work-life balance after the White House Forum?
