Anne Mosle, Executive Director of Ascend, the Family Economic Security Program at the Aspen Institute.

The purpose of this day long convening is to lay a foundation on which to build a citywide, sustainable coalition of District of Columbia organizations that use asset-building tools, such as financial education, tax assistance, credit counseling, mainstream banking, and matched savings, in their service models to improve the economic stability of individuals and families.  During the convening public entities, local funders and community based organizations will share best practices, possible resources and leveraged costs. Subsequently, the Coalition would begin development of a flexible roadmap to self-sufficiency for District residents and identify a small number of key indicators to gauge the impact of asset building among coalition members and their customers.

Beatriz “BB” Otero, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services for D.C.

Our keynote speaker, Ms. Anne Mosle, founder of the Stepping Stones initiative at the Washington Area Women’s Foundation and now manager for the Ascend project at the Aspen Institute, will generate innovative ideas and approaches for the day. During the working lunch Deputy Mayor Beatriz Otero will lead a discussion by key city administrators on the importance of coordinated delivery of services and tracking impact for clients.  The afternoon agenda will include breakout sessions that will allow service providers, public agencies and funders to share their perspectives on asset building, its benefits and challenges, as well as opportunities for integration and coordination.

This is event is hosted by New America Foundation’s Asset Building Program, Capital Area Asset Builders, Healthy Families/Thriving Communities, Latino Economic Development Corporation and the Administration for Children and Families.
