The Department published a proposed regulation on accreditation and state authorization of online programs in June 2019. On July 12, 2019, New America's Amy Laitinen and Clare McCann submitted public comments that raised concerns with the regulatory process used and urged the Department to protect students and taxpayers by strengthening, not weakening, accreditation rules.
