Yesterday, the House Energy & Commerce Committee approved the Save the Internet Act (H.R. 1644), a bill that would restore the 2015 net neutrality rules. New America's Open Technology Institute (OTI) endorsed this legislation alongside dozens of public interest groups, consumer advocates, and grassroots activists.

The following statement can be attributed to Joshua Stager, senior counsel for New America’s Open Technology Institute:

“We applaud the committee for approving this important legislation, and urge the full House to quickly pass the bill. Time is of the essence. When Verizon throttled firefighters last year during California’s deadly wildfires, the FCC couldn’t do anything due to the net neutrality repeal. We need the FCC back as the cop on the beat before the next wildfire season starts.”
