The Homemaker Mystique featuring Celebrity Chef Cat Cora

Every working parent can relate: on top of being a model employee, they feel pressure to engage with their children, volunteer in their community, and prepare well-balanced, nutritious meals from scratch on a regular basis. Parents are urged to eat fresh and local, and reminded of the importance of that crucial family dinner, which is said to reduce obesity and improve psychological well-being for children. Yet new research shows that putting the nightly dinner on the table also increases stress on parents, especially those in low-income households. In this time of overwhelm and high expectations, and powerful but conflicting cultural messages–work longer! hustle home to have dinner with your kids! stop at the store! buy organic! check your email! don’t check your email! be present in the moment!–how do families balance their home and work lives?
Celebrity chef, and mother of 4, Cat Cora will deliver a keynote address then join other experts for a panel moderated by Liza Mundy. Join New America’s Breadwinning & Caregiving Program for a lively discussion on the way modern families are formed and cared for.
There will be a reception following the discussion.
