“I was elected to represent the people of Pittsburgh, not Paris.” President Trump, announcing US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord
“As Mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of the Paris Agreement for our people, our economy, and our future.” Bill Peduto, Mayor of Pittsburgh
On June 1, 2017, President Donald Trump announced the US withdrawal from the landmark Paris Climate Agreement, which was designed to reduce carbon emissions and slow global warming. It had been signed by nearly every nation in the world. In the aftermath of Trump’s decision, thousands of Americans took to the streets of cities and towns and pledged to take climate change into their own hands.
In National Geographic’s new documentary, Paris to Pittsburgh, directors Michael Bonfiglio and Sidney Beaumont travel throughout the US to explore this powerful national movement and its efforts to tackle carbon emissions and create a new clean energy economy. They speak with elected officials and local leaders, innovators, scientists, and entrepreneurs who each understand the high stakes in their own communities and are working to transform how Americans get around, build buildings, grow food, and generate electricity.
On January 16th join New America NYC at Betaworks Studios for a special screening of Paris to Pittsburgh and a conversation that looks at the impact of local action in a time of national debate over the country's–and the planet’s–energy future.
