Across the U.S., eviction and foreclosure data is often so poor that local leaders can’t answer basic questions, like: how many people lose their home each year? Which neighborhoods are hardest hit? And, who is most at risk? While access to housing loss data is a major barrier in many cities and counties, so too is the capacity to analyze this data, even when it is available.
In partnership with DataKind and a cohort of 14 cities and counties, the Future of Land and Housing program at New America developed the Foreclosure and Eviction Analysis Tool (FEAT), an open source data tool that empowers local leaders to better understand, track, and prevent housing loss over time. The tool standardizes and geocodes local eviction and foreclosure data, transforming it into outputs that show where housing loss is most acute, when during the year housing loss is occurring, and who is most impacted.
Join us for a virtual event with a live demonstration of the newly-released data tool, followed by a panel discussion with city leaders who helped develop and test the tool and will share how they envision using its insights to inform local housing policy.
