Millions of Americans will relocate in the coming decades due to climate change. As storms, heat and wildfires push Americans northward and inland, will this migration be chaotic, inequitable, and financially ruinous, or can it spark new economic growth and opportunity?

Please join the Future of Land and Housing Program at New America for a conversation between scholar Jesse M. Keenan and journalist Vann R. Newkirk II on the rapidly shifting landscape of climate-driven migration in the United States.

Drawing from Keenan’s new book, North: The Future of Post-Climate America (Oxford University Press), as well as Newkirk’s ongoing reporting for The Atlantic, the pair will explore how escalating climate impacts are already reshaping where Americans can and choose to live, from “dead zones” that people are leaving to “receiving communities" that are attracting new people. Together, Keenan and Newkirk will offer not only a diagnosis of our current climate crisis, but a path forward towards a more equitable and resilient America
