The Assets Agenda 2011

Every now and then, it’s a good idea to stop and take stock of where you are, where you’ve been and try and figure out as best you can where you’re headed. For the Asset Building Program, our opportunity to do that is The Assets Agenda.

The Assets Agenda is our effort to outline a public policy agenda which would broaden savings and asset ownership opportunities for those people who have limited resources at their disposal. While we compile, edit, and issue the Assets Agenda the report represents contributions from the entire asset building field, policies developed and advocated for by New America alongside those who belong directly to our friends and colleagues. The ideas come in different forms as well, representing  new structures and programs, changes to existing tax systems and financial products, highly-detailed policy proposals with years of work informing their structure and emerging ideas as well.

The common thread is that these ideas all can improve the economic well-being of American families if implemented by broadening savings and asset ownership. We believe that millions of lives could be affected and improved if the changes put forward in The Assets Agenda were enacted into law.

Take a look, let us know what you think about where we’re headed in the next few years.
