This week in our Early Ed Forum, we posted two new video clips from the Before Birth & Up Through Third Grade Policy Forum:
- Walter Gilliam, associate professor, Child Study Center at Yale University, praises the efforts underway in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), Maryland to serve more high-need preschool children. The clip also cites some forthcoming research by Gilliam on the relationship between policy-making and policy implementation at the classroom level.
- Janine Bacquie, director of early childhood education for MCPS, discusses how the school district braids local, state and federal funds, including Title I dollars, to provide full-day pre-kindergarten for children from families in poverty. She also shares data on student outcomes showing that MCPS’s full-day program has led children to gain more skills than children who did not attend for the full day.
