Joel Rienstra
Technical Director
Joel Rienstra is the Technical Director at New America. With over 15 years of experience as a video producer, Rienstra has overseen thousands of live broadcasts across 40 states and internationally for news networks, professional sports leagues, music and entertainment, nonprofits, and numerous public and private entities. As an entrepreneur and visionary in the world of live video, Rienstra leverages his technological and creative expertise to deliver powerful audio-visual experiences and helps organizations elevate their stories and amplify their messaging through the use of innovative, immersive media.
Prior to joining New America, Rienstra was the Founder and Executive Producer at StreamByte, where he pioneered novel uses of live-streaming and mobile uplink technologies to facilitate coverage of live news and in-person and virtual events around the world. His expertise and business success in the field of remote video production have been featured by media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal and CNN, and he was awarded an Anthem Award for his work with GirlTrek's Daughters Of series.
Earlier in his career, Rienstra worked at LiveU, where he collaborated with organizations such as C-SPAN, New York Knicks, Fuse TV, and NASCAR to expand their roll-out of bonded-cellular broadcast solutions. He also was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the LiveU Community, a program that pairs media outlets with a global network of video professionals.
Rienstra received his bachelor of arts degree in Business Economics and Media Communications from Wheaton College. He lives in Easton, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC, with his wife Bernice and daughters Wilhelmina and Eleanor.
