The Workweek is a weekly roundup written by Indeed.com’s chief economist, Jed Kolko. It highlights the latest research, news, and perspectives around the labor market. In addition to working with Indeed, Jed also pulled together the research and data for the Shift Commission.

The Workweek picks for this week include a new paper from the New York Fed showing that demographic changes likely had more impact on the economic slowdown than the global financial crisis. Plus stories from the Wall Street Journal asking where all the missing tech jobs have gone; Bloomberg View pointing out that works keeps you healthy; and Marketplace finding that economic anxiety is on the rise.

The most insightful nugget this week? A new study by McKinsey found that 70% of independent workers do independent work by choice.
