This week’s Workweek picks include a Wall Street Journal article that examines the argument that the US economy’s shift toward a service-based economy is liable for the lion’s share of slowing productivity growth. With a backdrop of Brexit and calls for the UK to take back control of its borders, the London School of Economics explores the facts behind what the UK can actually control, and separates myth from reality. And despite new technologies emerging over the past decade, a report from JPMorgan Chaseshows that there is still ground to be gained in matching workers to the right job.

Most insightful nugget? With nearly a quarter of the country expected to be over 65 by 2050, FiveThirtyEight found that many economists believe the aging US population is a likely explanation for slower economic growth.

The Workweek is a weekly roundup written by Indeed.com’s chief economist Jed Kolko that highlights the latest research, news, and perspectives around the labor market. In addition to working with Indeed, Jed also pulled together all the research and data for the Shift Commission.
