The future of work is the future of everything. For many of us, work is the reason we get out of bed in the morning. It's the way we support our families, contribute to our communities, build towards our futures. But it's changing as a result of automation, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies, and in the future, work may look very different than it does today.
What kind of work will people do five, ten, and twenty years from now? How do we identify new skills and help workers adapt? Does the work available now and in the future provide the stability and opportunity workers expect? How will the future of work transform the communities in which we live?
ShiftLabs works in partnership with communities around the country to adapt to changing job opportunities. We collaborate with leaders across sectors to develop a long-term vision for economic vibrancy. Bringing together technology, traditional industries, policy, and culture, ShiftLabs will develop a plan that builds on each city’s strengths and works within communities to launch people into new jobs, fields, and careers.
The work builds on insights developed through the Shift Commission, a joint partnership between New America and Bloomberg that examined the impact of automation and artificial intelligence on work, which found that workers need three things to succeed in the coming innovation economy: vision, motivation, and economic stability.
