The Louisiana National Guard and a State Emergency

Photo: The National Guard/ Flickr

Our image this week is of the Louisiana National Guard, who deployed over 1,200 soldiers for search and rescue missions after numerous parishes issued a state of emergency due to intense flooding. On Sunday, the extreme weather event reached the federal level as President Obama declared it a major disaster and requested Federal aid for the recovery efforts of 4 parishes. The unprecedented heavy rains are predicted to continue, but it is unknown when they will stop and how much damage they will ultimately cause.
