Lul Tesfai is a senior policy analyst with the Education Policy program’s Center on Education & Skills at New America.
Prior to joining New America, she was a senior policy director at CNA Education, where she led efforts to strengthen the adult education and career and technical education (CTE) research base. Additionally, Tesfai previously served as the director of policy in the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) at the U.S. Department of Education (ED). In this role, Tesfai supported policy and strategy development for OCTAE, which is responsible for the ED's CTE, adult education, community college, and correctional education and reentry portfolio. She has also worked as a policy consultant for the California Senate Office of Research, an educational consultant to several school districts across the country, and a public school teacher.
Tesfai holds a master’s in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in political science and international studies from Northwestern University.
