Douglas McGray

Douglas McGray writes about social and international issues, technology, and culture for The New Yorker, This American Life, The New York Times Magazine, and The Atlantic Monthly. He is also the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Pop-Up Magazine, a "live magazine" that showcases new documentary film, photography, radio, interviews, and print journalism live on stage at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. His work has received a number of national journalism awards, and been profiled on the cover of Time Asia and in the "Year in Ideas" issue of The New York Times Magazine.

Previously a features editor at Foreign Policy, Mr. McGray was an architect of its transformation from an academic journal into an award- winning magazine. He has appeared as a commentator on CNN, NPR, and PBS's The Charlie Rose Show. He is a graduate of Brown University.

Based in California, Mr. McGray investigates a wide array of issues related to inequality and opportunity, from education and immigration to food, housing and the criminal justice system.
