Bartow Elmore, Carnegie Fellow and Eric & Wendy Schmidt Fellow, is the author of Citizen Coke: The Making of Coca-Cola Capitalism. An associate professor of environmental history at Ohio State University and a core faculty member in the school's Sustainability Institute, he is currently completing his second book, Seed Money: How Monsanto's Chemical Past Became Our Food Future. It will offer the first global environmental history of the St. Louis firm, tracing Monsanto's astounding evolution from making DDT to manipulating DNA. Not just a story of one corporation, the book examines the profits and perils associated with selling genetically engineered seeds.
