Alysha Alani was an Emerson National Hunger Fellow in the Family-Centered Social Policy program at New America.
Prior to New America, Alani evaluated the impact of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) time limit policy at United Way of King County in Seattle, WA. In addition, she researched asset building and played a key role in implementing tax time savings and initiatives with United Way's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.
Previously, Alani served as a research assistant in the Housing and Foreclosure unit of the public interest law firm Empire Justice. She analyzed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau claims and created a database of NY State Division of Human Rights cases to make analysis and research more accessible. While at the Susan B. Anthony Center, she worked on issues such as the local gender wage gap and co-authored qualitative research publications. Alani graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from the University of Rochester in 2015 with a BA in anthropology and Spanish and minors in public health and gender studies.
