Are Monopolies Destroying America?

Most of our public debates about globalization, competitiveness, creative destruction, and risky finance are nothing more than a cover for the widespread consolidation of power in nearly every imaginable sector of the American economy, argues Barry C. Lynn in Cornered: The New Monopoly Capitalism and the Economics of Destruction. As regulation over monopolies has eased, the people who control these corporations have gained the power to govern our economy, our democracy, and our lives.

Called "a manifesto for our times" by Thomas Frank in the Wall Street Journal, Lynn's latest book reveals how these monopolies came into being and how they collude with one another to maintain power. But more importantly, Cornered provides a plan for breaking up the monopolies and taking back the country.

A long-time business journalist who has lived and worked around the world, Lynn is also author of End of the Line: The Rise and Coming Fall of the Global Corporation.
